Why Baird Capital Invested in Blue Matter
Pharma commercialization is a segment Baird Capital knows exceptionally well and has invested in over many years. Blue Matter offered a growing, profitable, transatlantic and founder-run business in exactly this space, with a number of features that stood out to our team:
- Addressed a large, growing, global and resilient market. What’s more, Blue Matter was still small relative to the total addressable market and focused on its most attractive sub-segments.
- A rare level of diversification – by service line, region, client, stage, therapeutic area and consultant – making the business well-positioned both defensively and offensively.
- A clear right to win, delivering organic growth of 26% (2022–2025) against a serviceable market growing around 8% per annum.
- A best-in-class management team, several of whom had worked together for two decades.
In April 2026 we re-invested in the business. This high-conviction decision reflects our strong trust in and alignment with management (our third time backing this team), as well as Blue Matter's continued momentum (grew approximately 30% in 2025).
Partnering with Blue Matter's Founders
Our relationship with Blue Matter's founders is extensive. Dandekar and Hua previously worked together at Campbell Alliance, a previous Baird Capital investment. When they sought their next institutional partner, they chose Baird Capital for the strength of our existing relationship, our partnership approach, a strong cultural fit and our global platform. We have since supported the team while trusting their ability to run the day-to-day business.
Blue Matter enjoyed steady growth for many years; however, partnering with Baird Capital definitely elevated our game. They have been true partners in helping to guide our long-term strategy and trusted our ability to manage the day-to-day business. They pushed us to become more disciplined in our operations, provided sound advice on growth opportunities, and most importantly allowed us to be us, which makes every interaction productive and positive.

The Situation: How Baird Capital Supported Blue Matter
Our path to value centered on driving growth both organically and through acquisition, building human capital, and professionalizing systems and processes, all of which were materially delivered. Blue Matter today has a strong finance function, a history of clean audits, robust data reporting and much-improved forecasting accuracy. Working together, our teams:
- Green-fielded a series of new service lines — Market Access, Medical Affairs and Real-World Evidence from 2022; Analytics and Market Research from 2023; and Medical Communications, Market Access Communications, Human Capital, Policy and Patient Services in 2025.
- Entered new locations including Boston, Mumbai and Rotterdam, while simultaneously increasing customer diversification.
- Built monthly reporting, management information and KPIs, and supported the team with incentivization planning.
- Established Blue Matter as an acquirer of choice for sub-$20m-revenue, founder-run businesses. We also led M&A execution on the company’s behalf.
- Helped build out human capital; adding a CFO, board advisor and chair, and general counsel; while supplementing senior leadership across geographies and business lines to create a well-diversified team beneath the founders.
Alongside executing an organic value-creation playbook, Blue Matter completed two acquisitions and one acqui-hire that expanded its capabilities and geographic reach during our original hold period: AIM (2020), adding supply-chain consulting and European reach; Sam Brown (2024), adding best-in-class strategic communications; and Spekle, a data and analytics acqui-hire.
In April 2026, Baird Capital Global Fund II realized its investment in Blue Matter through a continuation vehicle, with Baird Capital re-investing to back the next phase of Blue Matter's growth – our third time partnering with this management team.
